A couple of weeks back, my start-up River launched a crowd funding campaign for Cate, a new platform that joins direct messaging with email.

We did not reach our goal for a number of reasons. There were a number of learnings we analyzed. Most importantly, we did not get enough coverage and exposure to draw attention of enough customers. Second, it isn’t easy to sell an abstract idea to common users before they had a chance to experience it. We consider Cate a breakthrough idea and technology, that differentiates itself from competitors in the area. But from a consumer perspective, the mere description of our product did not sell the idea.

We strongly believe in the core elements that make Cate an outstanding product. We have worked out the user experience down to every detail, developed a product strategy and a plan for the rollout over the next two years. We have an idea for the business model, to turn Cate into a profitable platform. The concept is there, down to the user interface. But we have a lot of work ahead of us. What we need now is investment so we can get started developing.
